To new beginnings!
If you're reading this, you've somehow found your way to my little corner of the internet. Mind the trash, and close the door on the way in.
I'm not too sure what this blog is going to be yet. On a personal level, I've undergone a big shift over the past six months - a monumental one, to be sure. I'm not sure if I've come out of it better or worse, but it's renewed my interest in writing - thus, the blog.

But, what to write about?
A variety of things. I'll try and keep it impersonal where possible. So far, a list of potential topics include:
- Writing - thoughts on the craft itself, short fiction and/or excerpts that I'm satisfied with.
- Language - specifically language acquisition, my own path to fluency in Mandarin and my ongoing auto-didactic projects.
- Science fiction - hard sci-fi, space opera, cyberpunk. Books, TV shows, movies - anything vaguely Banksian will have my undivided attention.
- Literature and books - what I'm reading, what I should be reading.
- Politics - as someone who has at times been characterised as an authoritarian socialist, a far right nationalist, and a free-thinking libertarian, I feel as though I have some insight into what the fringes of political discourse have to offer.
- Old video games - not in the 'retro' sense, but I have fond memories of strategy games from the late 90's and early 2000's, before AAA studios worked out the commercial formulae they use today.
- Asian cinema - the last few years have been a boon for both the Korean and Chinese film industries, and there are some gems that deserve far more recognition than they receive internationally.
That's all I can think of for now. It's getting late, and the ice in my tonic has melted.
